Floral Notes
Helleborus orientalis is commonly known as the "Lenten Rose" because it blooms around the time of Lent (the period of penitential preparation prior to Easter), which falls sometime between late February and early April. The hellebore flower is a symbol of relief and tranquillity and said to have magical protective powers. The Victorian 'language of flowers' says that a gift of these flowers is a "cure for melancholy".
