Floral Notes
The snowdrop is the birth flower for January and specifically for those born on the 20th of the month. It is a symbol of consolation, friendship in adversity, a friend in need, hope, purity and love at first sight.
There are several old legends written about snowdrops. One of my favourites is the story of how the snow became white. The legend says that at the beginning of time when the world was created, the snow had no colour at all. It begged each flower in turn, the violet, buttercup and rose, to share their colourful hues, but all refused. Only the snowdrop, a little flower with a pure and generous heart, offered to share its pale, delicate colour . Ever grateful the snow enfolds the snowdrops in winter, keeping them warm and safe.
